I'm trying to convince my friend that her going natural was the best decision she could have made.12/6/2016 A few weeks ago my friend called me in agony over the process of her hair and stated that she is considering going back into a relaxer. You see two years ago after doing the big chop, she decided to go natural. Since then she says that her hair has not been the same and that it has actually gotten shorter and unmanageable since going natural. She feels that her hair was in a better state relaxed and is ready to end her natural hair journey.
I endured the same struggle when I made the decision to go natural. In conversation with my friend, I explained to her that the transitional stage from relaxed hair to natural is not easy. It requires a great deal of patience, and that over time she'll get more familiar with her natural hair and learn how to tame it. I know this all too well because, there were days when I struggled with just trying to style my hair. Baaaby let me tell you, there were moments when I didn't even like my hair, and struggled with whether or not to go back to a relaxer also. This December marks my 13th year relaxer free hair journey, and I can indeed say that I absolutely love my hair! I honesly have more fun with my hair now, then ever before, and I love the fact that I can switch it up whenever I feel like it. I truly hope my friend hangs in there. Being natural does take commitment but it is truly worth it. XOXO, Lawana
